After making the high-profile acquisitions of Robin Le Normand, Alexander Sorloth, Conor Gallagher, and Julian Alvarez during the 2024 summer transfer window, Atletico Madrid was extremely busy. In 2025, they probably won’t be as busy, but they still aim to have a big impact in the market.
Sales would probably be required first, though, before that could take place. Relevo has stated that RB Leipzig is “very close” to finalizing the Belgian midfielder’s permanent signing, so thankfully, one is already on the verge of being closed.
After Vermeeren’s sale is completed, Atleti will earn €20 million, which will be on top of the €3 million they previously received from the original loan agreement.
Atletico Madrid will undoubtedly be disappointed that Vermeeren, who signed from Royal Antwerp in January, hasn’t been a success. However, the funds should be very helpful in the run-up to the transfer window next summer.
